USPFC ELIGIBILITY

Eligible competitors must be 18 years of age (on the start date of the Games) and are full time employees or retired personnel from eligible agencies from the United States of America.

In order to be eligible to compete in the USPFC an athlete must be assigned to a public agency as a Law Enforcement Officer, Peace Officer, Firefighter, Customs, or Correctional Officers in good standing.

Or a Retired Full Time Law Enforcement Officer, Peace Officer, Firefighter, Customs, or Correctional Officers. All retired officers must provide proof of such service

Or a Reserve Law Enforcement Officer, Peace OfficerFirefighter, in good standing, of an eligible agency with a minimum of two years’ service.

Or an Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic in good standing, of an eligible agency with a minimum of two years’ service. Retired Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic with 10 or more years of service are invited to compete.

Or a Volunteer or Part time Firefighter, in good standing, of an eligible agency with a minimum of two years’ service. Retired volunteer or part time Firefighters with 10 or more years of service are invited to compete.

Or a Non-sworn, full-time employee (Active or Retired) of an eligible agency or organization in the capacity of 9-1-1 Dispatcher, Detention-Custodial Officer, Crime Scene Investigators, or Lifeguard. Retired employees and separated employees with 10 or more years of service from any of the above listed eligible agencies are invited to compete.

Eligibility to participate in the USPFC Games is at the discretion of the USPFC Board of Directors. Other Emergency Service agencies can make an application to the USPFC Eligibility Sub-Committee for consideration. The USPFC Board of Directors reserve the right to refuse entries from any individual or agency.

  • Any person terminated from the service for less than honorable reasons shall not be considered eligible to compete regardless of length of service or retirement status.
  • Unless eligible by their own employment status, Spouses and/or family members ARE NOT eligible to compete in the Championships.
  • Athletes claiming “retired” status MUST be retired in good standing from an eligible agency. Those claiming “retired” status must have served a minimum of ten (10) years in the eligible agency unless separated by medical reasons.
  • The USPFC has developed criteria for the purposes of determining eligibility for “retired” eligible athletes.
  • Seasonal employees of qualified agencies are not eligible to compete.
  • You must have at least one-year active service with your respective agency. Verification of your status is required from your agency in order to participate.
  • If you are unsure of your eligibility status, contact the USPFC Headquarters in San Diego.

Grounds For Disqualification

  • Any person that enters the Games, or attempts to enter the Games knowing that he/she is ineligible, or any coach or competitor that enters another person knowing that such person is ineligible, without having first obtained official approval, will be disqualified from the Games and further participation.
  • Any team with an ineligible player will be disqualified.
  • No refunds will be made in these situations.

  • All eligible agencies must be specifically approved by the United States Police & Fire Championships Board of Directors.
  • The USPFC may approve additional agencies, job descriptions and individuals if, after examination, it finds their duties and service to be satisfactory.

Other agencies not listed here may be specifically approved/disapproved by the USPFC. Please note the above lists are not exclusive. If you are unsure of eligibility or if you wish to be considered for eligibility, please contact the USPFC headquarters. Personnel who are not members of agencies such as those listed above, but believe they may be eligible, should complete the “Entrant Eligibility Questionnaire” at the USPFC website: www.uspfc.org. Complete the form and submit it to the USPFC headquarters.

Retired employees and separated employees with 10 or more years of service from any of the above listed eligible agencies are invited to compete and must provide proof of such service.

Competitors with disabilities are eligible to apply, however we request you contact the USPFC website, www.uspfc.org to facilitate individual competition registration.
