In 1984, Bobbie Cassidy with Legacy U.S. Customs Service, was instrumental in creating the
first Women’s Law Enforcement Invitational Pistol Competition, with 49 participants from seven
law enforcement agencies. This event ran until 1997. Then in 2007, a small group of dedicated
women in the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations
(HSI), brought back the event, renaming it the San Diego Women’s Pistol Invitational. The
Invitational is held in March to honor both the event’s inception and roots and Women’s History
Month.
The purpose of the event has always been to bring together and highlight women in law
enforcement while promoting tactical firearms training, gun safety and interagency
relations. The event is open to sworn female law enforcement officers and provides for
excellent camaraderie building, networking and training opportunities, as we host individual and
team shooting events.
In 2017, the event brought together the highest number of attendees, 250 women, representing
over 20 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. In 2018, seeing the opportunity to do
more for women in law enforcement, the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF) agreed to
partner, assisting with financial and operational support.
The 2020 Women’s Pistol Invitational was held on March 6th at the San Diego Regional
Firearms Training Center (SDRFTC) with 183 participants encompassing over 23 federal, state,
and local law enforcement agencies. With eight courses of fire, awards were given to the top
five cumulative scores in individual and team competitions as well as awards to the teams with
the fastest time for each course of fire.
